Family Travel Adventures
from: Kyle BesserMost people love the idea of family adventure travel. The thought of the family doing something together that is fun and adventurous seems like a great idea, but family adventure travel is the type of vacation that must be carefully thought out and well planned if the vacation is to be a success.
Some families have the enviable situation in which the children are willing to go anywhere and do anything the parents suggest. Not all families, however, have that luxury. Many children, especially as they get older, aren't interested in the type of family adventure travel vacation the parents have suggest. It could be a good idea to have a family discussion in which all can participate before deciding on the vacation plans. The parents could explain the available options, and perhaps a plan of action satisfactory to all could develop.
In choosing a destination or activity for family adventure travel, parents should take a number of things into consideration. Is the trip really suitable for the ages of the children? If it involves long car rides, the parents should consider means of keeping the children from becoming bored. Many newer vehicles have video equipment, but if that isn't available, there are games and other diversions to entertain children on long drives.
When packing children's clothing for the family adventure travel trip, parents need to anticipate the weather and be prepared for bad weather. It's better to have those jackets and not need them than to need them and not have them.
Of course, medications and the availability of medical care need to be considered. If a child's medicine should run out, will it be available where the family is going? If a child should be hurt or become ill during family adventure travel, how readily available is good medical care?
Parents should also plan in advance for the possibility that one member of their group could be separated from the rest of the group. Have you and your family talked about what to do in such an event? Has a meeting place been pre-arranged? Does the child have identification? Does the child know where to go for help? Do the parents know where to go for help? This should be planned in advance of the day's activities.
Many tour operators offer packages especially designed for family adventure travel. Their tours are kid friendly because they want families to be repeat clients. This can be a big help for parents looking for a family adventure travel that is both fun and safe for kids.
