India Adventure Travel

from: Kyle Besser

For unforgettable adventure travel India is a land that offers a vast array of India adventure travel possibilities. Of course, there is the Seventh Wonder of the World, the Taj Mahal at Agra, built by the emperor Shahajan as a tomb for his beloved wife. But this monument to an emperor's love is not the only architectural wonder in India.

India adventure travel can take you to the temples of Khajuraho, which were built between 950 and 1050 AD and are now listed as a World Heritage site. You could visit the great Allahabad Fort that the emperor Akbar built in 1583 where within the fort is the underground Patalpuri Temple that houses the immortal tree, the Akshayavat.

For people who love wildlife, India adventure travel is a dream come true. India has more than 440 wildlife sanctuaries and 80 national parks that are home to a great number of species, many of which are now rare and protected. There are tiger reserves in Rajasthan and the Himalayan foothills. The Gir National Park in Gujarat is the only place where visitors can still see the Asiatic lion in its natural habitat.

In Tamil Nadu the Mudumalai Sanctuary is home to a large elephant herd. The Keoladeo Ghana National Park at Bharatpur is a sanctuary for many species of birds, including spoonbills, ibises, storks, cormorants and herons. Visitors can see Indian wildlife from a jeep or from the back of a camel or an elephant.

For the very adventurous, there are camping expeditions, some of which offer water sports. You can enjoy the magic of the Indian countryside for a few nights or enjoy this ancient and mysterious land for a few weeks.

In India, as in many other parts of the world, eco-tours are becoming more and more popular. “Green Laws” that protect the ecology are put in place so that the plant and animal life of this beautiful country will survive for generations to come. A growing number of adventure travel India tour operators of safaris, water excursions, overland hikes and cycle tours are making the wise move toward ecotourism adventure travel India tours.

People do not usually associate India with skiing, but this country of diverse landscapes and climate regions is making a breakthrough in winter sports. Auli is one place that has become a new destination for skiers looking for fresh challenges. There is also heli-skiing at such exotic places as Deo Tibba, Hanuman Tibba and Rohtang Pass.

In addition to these exciting choices for adventure travel India, there are also opportunities for gliding, mountain climbing and rafting. There is much more to adventure travel India than the Taj Mahal.
